I became a certified personal trainer on my 21st birthday back in 2006 and spent the next 7 years training clients in person.
Fast forward to 2013 after my first daughter was born: I abruptly changed career paths, started working a much more sedentary job, and was overwhelmed and stressed out as a new daddy.
As a result I stopped working out, and ate way too much compared to my activity level. The result was going from a lean, muscular 220 lbs to an overweight, unhealthy, and obese 250 lbs as you can see from the pictures.
Over the course of a few years I slowly gained fat and lost muscle, I felt absolutely terrible, had zero energy, craved unhealthy and processed foods, felt ashamed of the way I had let myself go, and in all honesty was depressed even though my marriage and family life was great.
It was me and the state of my health that was the problem, not my situation or circumstance.
In 2015 my second daughter Lily was born and that was the catalyst that motivated me to turn my health around. I was sick and tired of feeling sick and tired!
I knew in my current health I was unable to be the father I wanted to be to my precious young daughters. My goal was to be a strong, energetic, engaged, loving father who lives long enough to enjoy grand-kids.
Family life with two young daughters is chaotic, crazy busy, and awesome all at the same time. I knew that if I was going to be successful in getting healthy and losing weight - and, most importantly, keep it off - I needed a flexible and sustainable approach.
So I really dove deep into research and essentially unlearned a lot of the confusing, misleading, contradicting, misinformation I believed and had put into practice in the past specific to nutrition.
There was no way I was going to be successful following the old ways of limited food choices, eating 6 small meals a day consisting only of lean protein, vegetables, and low glycemic carbs. That may have been doable in the past when all I did was hang out in the gym all day and trained clients, worked out, and ate “clean”.
My life was now vastly different and a lot busier. Instead I learned how to eat in a way that's healthy, flexible, sustainable, and fit in with my overall goals.
I learned that the single most important factor when it comes down to reaching your goals is following a plan that you can do forever without feeling deprived or like you’re missing out on all life has to offer.
I’m happy to say I not only reached my goal, but I’m now in the best shape of my life, feel better than I ever have and I formed lifelong healthy habits in the process.
I know how it feels to be out of shape, self-conscious, low energy, and depressed. I also know what it's like to feel amazing, be full of energy, and confident. I want more people to feel great!
You don’t have to settle for less, and anyone can get into great shape and health with the right guidance and willingness to put in the work. This is why I’m dedicated to help others become better, healthier, more confident versions of themselves.
